Benefits: What value and offerings does your community offer?
Whether you’re looking for your next job, exploring freelance opportunities, or even considering a shift into leadership, being surrounded by people who know what’s out there — and who can refer you, recommend you, or even hire you — makes a huge difference. We’ve seen so many members land roles they never would’ve heard about if not for someone in the group pointing them in the right direction.
It’s not just about formal courses — although we do have those — it’s also about picking things up organically. Members are constantly sharing what they’re working on, asking for help, posting tutorials, or recommending tools. You get exposure to real-world problems and the way others are solving them, which is a rare and valuable kind of insight.
This isn’t a place where people hoard ideas or compete in silence — it’s a space where we build together. If you’re working on something interesting, chances are someone else here will want to jump in and help, or at least give you thoughtful feedback. And if you’re stuck, someone will likely say, “Hey, I’ve dealt with that exact issue — here’s what worked for me.”
It’s not about transactional networking — it’s about showing up as your full self and building long-term, trust-based relationships with others in the field. Some of our members have gone on to start companies together, write papers, or simply become close friends who support each other at every step.
This might mean early access to tools, discounts on courses, invites to private workshops, or even just a shared folder full of datasets and templates that others have contributed over time. It’s amazing how much value you can get from the collective contributions of a thoughtful group.
If you share your thoughts, write something insightful, speak at an event, or even just consistently show up and help others, people notice. Before long, you’re not just another person in the industry — you’re someone people trust, someone others look to for guidance and inspiration.
It can be lonely out there — especially in technical fields — but here, you’re surrounded by people who get it. We celebrate wins together, talk through challenges, and remind each other why we got into this work in the first place. There’s something powerful about knowing you don’t have to go it alone.
Rituals: These are the practices that happen regularly to engage and retain our members.
This initiative is part of our grassroots, independent LinkedIn group, dedicated to passionate data scientists who are committed to the practical application of scientific knowledge to drive positive change, advance innovation, and better society through data-driven solutions.
A Knowledge Jam is like an improvised jazz session — but for minds instead of instruments. It’s a spontaneous, collaborative space where data scientists come together to explore what’s new and interesting in the field.
We don’t come in with a fixed agenda. Instead, the topic of the day — a paper, a trend, a new tool, or a big question — is decided in real time by the group on the call. Someone might say, “Have you seen that new paper on multimodal transformers?” and boom — we’re off jamming on it.
No pressure, no prep — just curiosity, conversation, and shared discovery.
We post about one of our members each week and pin the post.
